Your Heart Matters - Cardiff

Monday 25th July 2022

Last Friday, Heart Valve Voice once again teamed up with our partners at Valve for Life UK for another Your Heart Matters Testing Event. This time, the team went to Cardiff, where we were joined by Cardiologists from University Hospital Wales.

Cardiff was the 8th stop on our nationwide tour. Each city we have visited has given us an opportunity to raise awareness of this common, serious, but treatable condition, and offer stethoscope checks to over 50s.

In Cardiff, we listened to 378 hearts, which beats our previous record of 368 in Leeds. We found 30 previously undetected cardiac conditions, and those people were given a letter to take to their GP for more investigation.

On a hot day in Wales, we were also joined by our Patient Advocate and recently appointed Mayor of Llanelli, Cllr Phillip Warlow, who spoke to the public about his valve disease experience, and highlighted that with timely treatment, patients can get back to a good, symptom free, life.

Wales’ Clinical Director for Heart Disease, Professor John Goodfellow, also joined us, to better understand the project and see the impact it has. We look forward to working with Professor Goodfellow in the near future as we follow on from our State of the Nation: Wales Report and support his work in improving the detection, diagnosis and treatment of the condition.

The next stop on our journey is Manchester on August 10th in St Ann’s Square. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn for more information.

Heart Valve Voice Executive Director, Wil Woan, said: “Thank you to the clincal team, our volunteers and the people of Cardiff for making this event a huge success. With every city we visit, we raise the profile of heart valve disease and highlight the importance of stethescope checks. Another fantastic event with Valve for Life, and I'm really looking forward to Heart Valve Voice's hometown event in Manchester in a few weeks time!"
