After Care following valve repair or valve replacement

You should be able to expect a return to a full and healthy life after valve repair or valve replacement. The normal recovery time after a heart valve surgery is usually eight to twelve weeks. However, very elderly patients may take longer to recover. Recovery is likely to be much shorter after transcathether aortic valve implantation (TAVI).

Top Tips:

  • Make sure you clean and moisturise your scar every day
  • Do your exercises, no matter how tired you are!
  • Don’t overdo it, use your recovery time as an excuse to get some of your less tasking things done like your taxes!
  • Never be afraid to ask your care team for advice
