In recognition of International Women's Day 2024, Heart Valve Voice is proud to be hosting a free heart check event aimed at raising awareness of women's cardiovascular health. The event on March 8th in Battersea Park, London, will provide free heart checks and emphasise the importance of early detection of heart valve disease.

Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death among women globally, yet it often goes undiagnosed due to gender disparities in healthcare. Women are more likely to experience atypical symptoms of heart disease, leading to delayed diagnosis and treatment. By raising awareness of these gender-specific symptoms, we aim to empower women to take charge of their heart health.

Heart Valve Voice is committed to addressing these disparities and promoting heart health education for all. Through events like this, we strive to break down barriers to healthcare access and ensure that every woman has the resources and knowledge to protect her heart.

On the day, the Cardiology team from St George's Hospital, Hammersmith, will be offering free stethoscope checks and pulse checks. Anyone found to have a previously undetected cardiac condition will be given a letter to take to their GP for onward referral.

Heart Valve Voice Executive Director, Wil Woan, said “ As we celebrate International Women's Day, it's crucial to acknowledge the ongoing challenges women face in healthcare. Our heart check event not only provides life-saving stethoscope checks but also serves as a reminder of the urgent need to address gender inequalities in heart valve disease pathways. Together, we can work towards a future where every woman receives the care and support they deserve."

The heart testing event will take place at Battersea Park from 10 am to 3 pm. Free checks will include stethoscope checks and pulse checks, with healthcare professionals on hand to provide guidance and support. All women are encouraged to attend and take proactive steps towards better heart health.
