Stuart Grant, Specialist Trainee in Cardiac Surgery from Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Heart Valve Voice ambassador shared with the Silversurfers what it's like to train as a cardiothoracic surgeon and to help valve disease patients get their lives back.
While it is extremely important to hear stories of heart valve disease surgery from patients, it is also helpful to understand things from a clinician’s perspective. In the article Stuart gives readers an overview of the challenges and rewards of surgical training. He discusses how things have changed over time from the training methods used to the new treatments available and the importance of communicating openly to patients.
