Be aware of the symptoms of Heart Valve Disease
Heart valve disease is a common, serious, but treatable condition that affects over 1.5 million people in the UK. Despite it being common, awareness of the symptoms is low.
Shortness of breath
Lightheadedness on exertion
Older than your years, or
Weary
If you feel SLOW symptoms:
- Think heart valve disease, and contact your doctor to ask for a stethoscope check. That simple stethoscope check could save your life.
- If a doctor hears a murmur, they will refer you for an echocardiogram, which will assess the severity of the murmur and give you a diagnosis.
- Although heart valve disease is serious, it is treatable.
- Patients most commonly receive a repair or a replacement valve, either through surgery or by a transcatheter procedure.
- Once treated, patients get back to a good quality of life, symptom free.
