All-Party Parliamentary Group on Heart Valve Disease

All-Party Parliamentary Group on Heart Valve Disease

Monday 14th December 2020

Heart Valve Voice are delighted to announce the formation of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Heart Valve Disease, which Heart Valve Voice will be acting as secretariat for.

All-Party Parliamentary Group’s (APPG) are cross-party groups run by Members of the Commons and Lords. In these groups, parliamentarians meet to discuss a particular issue of concern and explore relevant issues relating to this topic. APPG’s regularly examine issues of policy relating to a particular area, discussing new developments, inviting stakeholders and government ministers to speak at their meetings, as well as holding inquiries into pertinent matters.

The APPG on Heart Valve Disease will focus on understanding the cardiovascular landscape, the impact of COVID-19 on heart valve disease pathways, and the ways policymakers can seek to improve the detection, diagnosis and treatment of heart valve disease.

The APPG met for the first time on Wednesday 25th of November and you can read the minutes from that meeting here.

The MP for Birmingham, Selly Oak and Heart Valve Voice advocate, Steve McCabe, will act as Chair of the group, and continues his long standing commitment to supporting those affected by heart valve disease. Mr McCabe said, “Our ambition for the group is to increase the awareness of heart valve disease in the UK and help to ensure that patients receive timely diagnosis and the optimal management and treatment of their condition. The role of the APPG will be to act as the parliamentary advocate for those patients living with the condition. I look forward to working towards a better future for valve disease care in the UK.”

Heart Valve Voice CEO Wil Woan said “This is an important moment for Heart Valve Voice and anyone affected by heart valve disease. This group will empower us to affect policy changes that will change the future of valve disease care in the UK, improve the diagnosis and detection of the condition and save lives. Thank you to Steve McCabe for agreeing to Chair this group and to all the members who have given their time and support to our APPG.”
