As the second half of our photography competition is well under way, we thought it would be great to introduce you to the patients who will be the focus of our winning photographers photographic documentary. The documentaries will depict what life is like after heart valve disease treatment and will show our patients living their best life since their recovery.

This time last year, Marina had never even heard of Heart Valve Voice. Now one year on she is a valued member of our Patient Action Group, she’s represented patients in a Medical Technology Group briefing with Professor Huon Gray, NHS National Clinical Director for Heart Disease, she has climbed to the top of St Paul’s Cathedral and is has now signed up as a member of our Heart Valve Voice Cycle Team!

Since hearing from Gerry about a year ago, we recently caught up with him and it sounds like he hasn’t stopped since his valve disease treatment! 15 trips in total in the last two years!

Valve patient Norman Thorpe has been hard at work since his valve surgery in March. Not only has he been volunteering in his local mediaeval Parish church in the village of Whalley he has also penned a book containing a series of essays. The essays, originally written for the Parish Magazine, are all about the colourful history that surrounds the church, village and valley. Norman is very happy to have completed his book which is something he couldn’t have done without his life changing treatment.

Pat Khan, Patient Action Group member and mum of two recently travelled to Cyprus to celebrate the wedding of her 29 year old son Emil Khan. When they think back to the way Pat was before her surgery, there were times when they weren’t sure if she would have the energy to make a trip such as this. Now Pat has more energy than ever and not only made the journey but was a big help on the day too.

Patient Action Group member, Sue Jardine's most recent adventure is a wonderful example of how much you can do after receiving valve treatment. While helping her daughter move house recently, Sue not only surprised her daughter and husband at how much energy she had, but she also surprised herself!
